Getting the hang of the boat
Two minutes of video, and it is all written below.
Before you set off
Life jacket on — compulsory for children. Check there is a spare paddle and a bailer on board. Note the bar's phone number: it is on the plate in the boat.
Starting the engine
1. Check the gear lever is in neutral. 2. Open the fuel tap and squeeze the primer bulb until it goes firm. 3. Pull out the choke (cold engine), set the throttle to the start position. 4. Pull the starter cord with one short, firm movement. 5. Once it runs, push the choke back in. 6. Clip the red kill cord to your wrist or life jacket.
On the water
Keep away from swimming areas, jetties and anglers. Stay clear of the reeds — the propeller picks them up. Slow down when passing another boat. The maximum number of people is shown on the plate.
If the engine stops
Don't panic. Check the kill cord, the fuel tap and the fuel level. Try starting again. If it won't restart, call the bar and we will come and get you.
Coming back
Come back on time: someone is waiting after you. Approach the jetty slowly, cut the engine a few metres before, come alongside. Return the life jackets and the key at the bar.
